Speed Darlington's Lawyer Accuses Burna Boy of Orchestrating His Re-Arrest Amid Backlash from Music Executive PaulO

The tension between Nigerian artists Burna Boy and Speed Darlington has taken a dramatic turn, with lawyer Deji Adeyanju accusing Burna Boy of using his influence to oppress Speed Darlington.

This accusation came after Speed Darlington's re-arrest, following allegations of jumping bail in a case linked to Burna Boy.

Deji Adeyanju, a lawyer known for his outspoken and often controversial statements, took to social media to make his allegations.

He claimed that Burna Boy, who has built a reputation as an advocate for social justice through his music, is now involved in the oppression of Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Achakpo.

In a post that has since gone viral, Adeyanju said, “This is someone who has been singing against oppression and forming junior Fela, now oppressing Akpi,” referring to Speed Darlington by his nickname, "Akpi."

His words were aimed at Burna Boy, accusing the musician of hypocrisy, given his public stance against injustice.

While the accusation has caught the attention of many, it has also sparked intense debate among fans, industry insiders, and even other celebrities. Among those who have reacted strongly is music executive PaulO, who publicly slammed Deji Adeyanju for dragging Burna Boy into the matter.

In his response, PaulO expressed frustration with Adeyanju’s remarks, calling him a “social media lawyer” and questioning the validity of his claims. “Lawyer Deji or whatever they call you, can you put some respect on Burna Boy’s name?” PaulO wrote, challenging Adeyanju’s accusation and defending Burna Boy’s character.

PaulO further criticized Adeyanju for unnecessarily involving Burna Boy in what he perceived as a personal dispute. He urged Adeyanju to focus on controlling his client, Speed Darlington, instead of dragging Burna Boy into a matter that, according to him, had nothing to do with the artist. "Why are you even mentioning Burna Boy’s name? Get your facts right before you open your gutter mouth," PaulO added in a direct attack on the lawyer.

The music executive’s response highlights the growing division over the situation, with many fans and industry figures aligning themselves with either Burna Boy or Speed Darlington. While some have defended Burna Boy, citing his advocacy for social causes and his achievements in the global music scene, others sympathize with Speed Darlington, questioning whether his re-arrest is indeed a form of oppression as Adeyanju suggests.

The controversy surrounding the re-arrest began earlier this year, when Speed Darlington was detained by the police in connection with a case involving Burna Boy. According to reports, the charges stemmed from an incident between the two artists, though details of the case have remained unclear. Burna Boy’s involvement in the matter has been a point of contention, with some suggesting that the musician’s influence may have played a role in the legal challenges facing Speed Darlington.

Deji Adeyanju’s accusations have intensified the public’s focus on the relationship between Burna Boy and Speed Darlington. The lawyer claims that Speed Darlington, after being granted bail, was unable to appear in court due to a medical emergency that required him to travel abroad. Adeyanju asserts that Burna Boy, with his considerable influence, is behind the harassment and the re-arrest of his client.

“We will not allow this abuse of power to go unchecked,” Adeyanju declared in a follow-up statement, signaling his intention to continue fighting against what he describes as the wrongful targeting of Speed Darlington.

PaulO’s comments, however, suggest that he does not believe Burna Boy is the one behind any alleged oppression. Instead, PaulO insinuated that Adeyanju may be misinformed or playing into the drama for attention. He questioned Adeyanju’s credibility and accused him of using social media to amplify a situation that, in his view, should be dealt with through proper legal channels.

The social media back-and-forth between Adeyanju and PaulO has only added fuel to the fire, drawing both fans and critics into a debate about celebrity influence, the justice system, and the role of public figures in legal matters. While some believe that Adeyanju is speaking out on behalf of his client and trying to protect his rights, others feel that the lawyer is merely inflating a personal dispute to attract attention.

The situation has raised broader questions about the use of celebrity power in Nigeria’s legal system. In a country where public figures often wield significant influence, the idea of using that power to sway legal proceedings is a contentious one. Both Burna Boy and Speed Darlington have large followings, and the conflict between them has led to a divisive discourse online, with fans of both artists taking sides.

It’s clear that the matter has become more than just a legal issue. It has morphed into a public spectacle, with every new development fueling further discussion on social media. For many, this is about more than just the re-arrest of Speed Darlington; it’s about the ethics of celebrity influence and the fairness of the legal system when it comes to high-profile individuals.

As the drama unfolds, it’s uncertain what the final resolution will be. Will Burna Boy and Speed Darlington reconcile, or will their feud escalate further? Will Deji Adeyanju continue to accuse Burna Boy of using his power to oppress his client, or will the lawyer’s claims be disproven in the courts?

For now, the public remains divided, with some supporting Burna Boy’s stance as a champion of social justice, while others back Deji Adeyanju’s assertion that Speed Darlington is being unjustly targeted. The online battle continues, but one thing is certain: this conflict has exposed deeper issues surrounding the intersection of celebrity culture and the legal system in Nigeria.

In the end, the clash between lawyer Deji Adeyanju and music executive PaulO reflects the complexities of navigating celebrity feuds in the public eye. As the debate rages on, it will be interesting to see how the case develops and whether either side can achieve a sense of resolution in the face of growing public scrutiny.
