The Opposition parties NFP of the President of South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa has reacted to the nonchalant attitude the President has portrayed towards the violent protest in KwaZulu-Natal.
The President was attacked alongside with the the ANC’s provincial leadership for not condemning the violent protests that led to the closing of N2 and N3 freeways Roads with tyres and other debris burnt.
According to the information gathered by Shegze from newsmen truck drivers have been threatened since the early hours of Friday due to the ongoing protest.
Those responsible have been protesting against the incarceration of former President Jacob Zuma at a prison in Estcourt.
According to the statement by the representative of the NFP, it says “Though the majority of people who are participating in demonstrations are ANC members ... the reality is that ordinary South Africans have also joined in, as they share similar sentiments over the incarceration of the former President.
“As an organisation, we are concerned. In fact, we are extremely worried as these protests are getting out of hand.
“This situation calls for leadership. It calls for President Ramaphosa, both as ANC President and that of the country, to come out and address the people, in particular those disgruntled. It’s shocking and disappointing that the Presidency is silent.”
Also the leader of the Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal in person of Francois Rodgers, said “It cannot be that internal ANC factions undermine the rule of law, infringing on the rights of law-abiding citizens of KZN.
“Clearly, the ANC has created a monster, which if not controlled, will negatively affect our economy and most importantly lead to job losses.
“This is an ANC problem – not a political problem. Both the Premier and chairperson of the ANC, Sihle Zikalala, and the Mayor of eThekwini, Thomas Kaunda, amongst others, have recently publicly displayed their support for Jacob Zuma.
“This leads to the question; will they now have the political will to deal with these illegal protests? They are clearly caught between a rock and a hard place. It’s time to put the province ahead of the ANC’s factions.”
The National Freedom Party said in a statement that the KwaZulu-Natal protests could easily spread to other parts of the country.
