The Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has laid another record after scoring his 57th free kicks in a game that ended 1-1 between Argentina and Chile at the Copa America, on Monday night.
The Barcelona superstar after scoring the heart blowing free kick, he became Argentina’s all-time leading goalscorer in official games with his strike, bagging his 39th goal in 98 games and overtaking Gabriel Batistuta.
Alongside Lionel Messi also surpass his longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo, making him the only active footballer to score the most free kicks
He has now scored 57 free kicks in his career, one more than the Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi is however five goals short of Diego Maradona’s record of 62 free kicks.
Messi has scored a total of 73 goals for Argentina.
But Messi doesn’t find himself in the top 10 free-kick takers in football history - although he may well be 11th.
The Barcelona talisman still wish to lift a major trophy for his country side Argentina as his retirement age draws closer.
