As part of efforts to enhance performance by students in Secondary Schools as well as improve the quality of learning in the State, the Lagos State Government has called on School Principals to take active charge of their schools by focusing more on improved learning systems.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, disclosed this at the sixth interactive session with School Principals of Education District VI, held on Thursday at Ikeja Grammar School.
She added that the Public School learning system must be in tandem with the Science and Technology pillar as conceptualised in the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration.
The Commissioner expressed the need for Principals and Teachers in the State to work assiduously towards improving the performance of students as Mr. Governors’ desire is that every child who graduates from secondary school must be able to add value to society.
She averred that the school administrators must have a good rapport with and recognise the professionalism of teachers, while challenging them to contribute to the academic development of the school as everybody must be involved in improving the standard of learning.
Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District VI, Mrs. Oludara Okelola, reiterated the commitment of the District to improved performance of the students in external examinations.
She emphasised that towards this end, the District, in collaboration with relevant Associations, has commenced tutoring and mentoring of teachers in all schools in order to improve the learning environment in public schools.
