President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made a significant appearance at the National Assembly today, arriving to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives.

The president, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, entered the assembly chamber at exactly 12:12 PM.

Prior to his arrival, prominent government officials such as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and several ministers were already in attendance.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, delivering his welcome address, commended Tinubu’s administration for its efforts but raised concerns over certain issues.

He emphasized the need for all government ministers to respect invitations extended to them by the National Assembly, warning that the legislative body would not hesitate to exercise its constitutional powers over any official who disregards such invitations.

Akpabio also disclosed that the 2025 budget, which has been increased by 50%, will be pivotal in addressing the nation’s economic challenges.

He announced that the 2024 budget would be extended until June 2025, ensuring continuity in governance and fiscal planning.

As Tinubu began his budget presentation at 12:41 PM, security was notably heightened around the National Assembly complex.

Reinforcements from various security agencies were deployed to maintain order, and businesses within the premises were shut down for the day.

Only accredited staff and reporters were allowed entry, while non-essential personnel were instructed to stay home.

The joint session took place in the Green Chamber, where senators and representatives gathered as early as 8:00 AM.

The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as Tinubu unveiled the details of the ₦47.96 trillion budget, approved earlier this week by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The National Assembly management also implemented strict measures to ensure a smooth presentation.

Food vendors, banks, and other ancillary services were temporarily closed, underscoring the importance of the day’s proceedings.

The proposed budget aims to tackle critical national issues, including infrastructure development, economic diversification, and security enhancements.

Observers noted that this budget marks a significant milestone in Tinubu’s presidency, reflecting his administration’s commitment to driving growth and stability.

As discussions on the budget progress, all eyes remain on the National Assembly to analyze the details and implications of the proposed expenditure.

Tinubu’s speech emphasized the need for collective action to achieve Nigeria’s developmental goals, urging lawmakers to work collaboratively for the country’s progress.

The session, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, concluded with assurances of continued legislative support for national development.

Further updates on the budget deliberations are expected in the coming weeks as Nigeria braces for the implementation of this ambitious fiscal plan.
