The former President of South Africa Jacob Zuma, has been sentenced to a year and three months imprisonment, for contempt of court following his refusal to to appear before a graft panel.
According to Judge Sisi Khampepe, who gave a final Verdict on Tuesday, claims that, the formal president of South Africa Jacob Zuma was found guilty of contempt of court as Mr Zuma refused to appear before a graft panel.
In the statement, the Judge said “The Constitutional Court can do nothing but conclude that Mr Zuma is guilty of the crime of contempt of court.”
Former President Jacob Zuma who was impeached in 2018 over mismanagement and embezzlement will need to face a 15months imprisonment for indiscipline and declining a constitutional court order.
Zuma failed to appear at the inquiry led by the deputy chief justice, Raymond Zondo, in February. The inquiry is examining allegations of high-level graft during Zuma’s period in power from 2009 to 2018. He denies wrongdoing and has so far not cooperated.
